Odo lives happily and contentedly with her mother in a beautiful village near Accra in Ghana. She loves playing catch or hide-and-seek with her friends. And when thick gray clouds pile up in the sky, they perform happy dances in the rain. But then Odo finds out that her mom wants to emigrate to Germany with her! She can’t imagine leaving her friends behind at all. Thinking about it makes her heart feel heavy. Will Odo manage to overcome her fear?

Dayan Kodua is an actress, speaker, author and founder of Gratitude Publishing. Born in Ghana and raised in Kiel, Dayan followed her heart after graduating as a business assistant and studied acting in Berlin and Los Angeles. In addition to her work as an actress and speaker, she is committed to empowering people of color and making them more visible as role models. In 2014 she published the illustrated book “My Black Skin: Schwarz. Successful. German”, launched a traveling exhibition and corresponding workshops. It is particularly important to Dayan to make children aware of their inner strength. She devotes herself to this topic, among other things: in her picture book “Odo”, published in 2019. At the same time, she uses it, as well as the accompanying black doll and a matching puzzle, to promote more diversity in society. Dayan is currently working on the sequel to her illustrated book, which will be published in autumn 2021 under the title “My Black Skin: Hero’s Journey”. With Gratitude Publishing, she wants to give other authors the opportunity to present their “diverse” stories to the public. Dayan lives with her family in Hamburg.

Robby Krüger was born in Herford, East Westphalia, in 1969. After studying at the art college in Bielefeld, she moved to Berlin to work on her first projects in the creative metropolis. After a short time in Berlin, she focused on two creative areas: interior design and illustration. In her large Berlin studio, she plans room concepts as part of her company “Vision 23” and designs and creates small and large individual pieces for her projects. Orders came and continue to come not only from within the country, but also from the USA, England and Southeast Asia, for example. The field of illustration has developed very successfully in the last 5 years and she has already been able to work on some exciting projects, e.g. a planned American animation series, a 5-volume fantasy book series, the first part of which will be published this year and of course the first part of “Odo”. Her love for illustration grew stronger over time and is now the focus of her creative work. She is currently working on her first children’s book, which is scheduled to be published in 2022.

Boie attended the Elise-Averdieck-Gymnasium from 1960 and passed his Abitur at this girls’ school. She studied German and English at the University of Hamburg and completed the state examination before completing her doctorate in literary studies on the early prose of Bertolt Brecht. From 1978 to 1983 she taught at the Oldenfelde high school. At her own request, she moved to a comprehensive school and taught at the Mümmelmannsberg comprehensive school in Hamburg. There she found the confrontation with the different living conditions of the students and the impact on their development to be a “key experience”. When she adopted her first child, she had to give up teaching at the request of the youth welfare office. But because her life plan had always included both family and work, she began to write. Her first book Paule is a stroke of luck was published in 1985 and was an immediate success. Numerous series written by her are particularly popular, such as the stories from the seagull path, Lena (a girl of primary school age), Juli (a boy of kindergarten age) and King Kong. She has published around 100 books that have been translated into various languages. Many of her book series owe themselves to reader mail because their readers want to know how the stories in the books they have already written continue. Many of her texts appeared as audio versions. Some were placed on the hr2 audio book best list (including Nella-Propella, Sea Robber Moses and We Children from the Möwenweg) or on the best list of the German Record Critics’ Prize (The Little Knight Trenk, Alhambra). Her series Ritter Trenk has been adapted as an animated series and a film. Just like The Little Knight Trenk, We Children from the Möwenweg ran as an animated series on KiKA. In 2006/07 Boie received a teaching position at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg. She has been a member of the PEN Center Germany since 2017. Kirsten Boie was patron of the Children’s Book House in Hamburg.
